Since its inception on a wintry night in February of this year, Glimmer Globe Theatre Company & Acting Studio has generated a great deal of buzz and excitement within Cooperstown- a village brimming with arts enthusiasts but lacking a strong theatre dimension. Its founder, Danielle Newell, originally sought to launch as an independent theatre company at the onset. Happy circumstances led her to become the new Executive Director at The Smithy. Now, both she and her theatre have a home!

This summer, join the Acting Studio! Classes for children, teens, and adults- beginners and experienced thespians alike- are the thrilling first steps in the establishment of Glimmer Globe.

In the fall and winter, expect two new aspects of the company to emerge: a professional, resident theatre production program and a community theatre coalition that works to devise original works.

The resident company will be by audition only- notice will be given in advance. Guest directors (sourced from Manhattan as well as graduate-level university directing programs) will be invited to direct each new production, ensuring that shows are fresh, unique, and buzz-worthy.

The community theatre coalition will unite different sects of the population into microcosms of theatre companies with a monthly mission to write, produce, and perform a short play given an over-arching theme. Thus, theatre-making from every aspect (play-writing, acting, costume and set design, lighting, etc.) is learned, ideas are developed and shared, and a life-long love for theatre and storytelling is cultivated.

The mission of Glimmer Globe and its three tiers (acting studio, resident company, and community theatre coalition) is to make Cooperstown the hub of theatre arts in the region, attracting established artists and theatre-lovers with our innovative programs, quality productions, experienced professionals, and beautiful facilities. We accomplish this by actively engaging the community and being responsive to the needs, moods, and concerns of society at large so that the theatre is current, constantly challenging, ever evolving... and fun!

We also aim to bring whole new demographics of people and tourists to the village and charge the local economy. To that end, Glimmer Globe is eager to work very closely with local businesses.
